Make this film in 1945, film it in black and white with a 4x3 aspect ratio, and some how get around the Hays Code (like make it in Europe) and you have a genre of film noir that has never been made. You got all the lies, the femme fatale, the fat man from "The Maltese Falcon." I'm not saying it is even close to that film, but would be the style. I suspect that a lot of the negative reviews on the library website are from people turned off by the possibility of rape or sex games. The inclusion of art house actors Emanuelle Devos and the late Michael NvQvist suggest that it is not just a one star film. Can anyone tell me, are the last few frames there to show that the film has two possible opposite endings?
