This was an engaging story that kept me up for several hours to find out "what happens". After reading it, I did a little reading on Wikipedia about the real actress Loretta Young and her life, and realized that there was a very thin framework of facts in the novel around which the author wove complex relationships and emotions. I know there was a disclaimer on the back of the title page that this was a work of fiction (and yes, I did read that before starting the book). However, I think the 1930s is too recent for historical fiction. Maybe using the same framework of known facts and different names would have made it more palatable. I don't think I would have picked up the book if it had not been for the picture and mention of Clark Gable and Loretta Young, so in the end, I was annoyed that I spent time reading and "learning" about the lives of famous actors and their families, only to realize that very little of the story was real.
