This book had too much hype and never lived up to it. Both of the characters of Florentino Ariza and Fermina Daza have no redeaming qualities to them. I cannot sympathize with his suffering over a rejection from her some 51 years ago, and i cant feel sorry for her and her bad marriage because she deserved it. The only thing that would have made the ending better is if they both got cholera, or some form of the clap, or maybe a revolutionary bullet in the head. A good aligator feeding on the river would have made me smile. Characters that act the way they do don't deserve to live happily ever after at the end.
