This is one of Alice Hoffman's earlier works. The story of a man who has lived in the wild with wolves most of his life is compelling, especially as he tries to adapt to the life of an ordinary man. Robin, the gardener who rescues him, makes hard choices as she finds herself falling in love with him. A series of grizzly murders, animal and human, a life crisis involving Stuart, Robin's psychiatrist brother, and the subplots dealing with Ray (Robin's ex-husband) and her son Connor, weave a suspenseful story. I enjoyed the book very much and was compelled to finish it, resulting in two very late nights.
