This book is an uneven read that ranges from uninteresting (Lisa’s story) to somewhat engaging (Jay’s story). There really is no point to the book other than the author has an interest in container shipping and software.

I enjoyed this book right up to the very last chapter...and then it disappointed. All of my excitement crumbled when the author failed to reveal the motivation of the characters. He might have written the last words as "It was all about nothing."

Nicolas Dickner concocts a dynamically juxtaposing tale about the peculiarities of daily life, and the different lens through which denizens of the mainstream view activity compared to those on the periphery of society. Underlying Six Degrees of Freedom is the notion that meaning and worth extracted by sifting an experiential database is wholly dependent on who you are. Disclosure, the novel was all the more enjoyable because of a personal history with Greene St, Dorchester Blvd, Villeray district, Bonaventure station, and the geographic surroundings of Montreal down to the US border. Detracting from the enjoyment: metric measurements, to which I do not relate viscerally.
