Once the head cheerleader in school with plenty of prospects, Rose now has little to show for her life. She still sees the former head football player, but it is little more than a despondent affair. When Oscar is expelled from public school, Rose takes a job as a bio-hazard crime-scene cleaner to help pay for a private education. She brings Norah on to help in her steadily growing business. As the sisters work to clean up the messes left behind by the chaotic lives of others, they must learn to reconcile their own differences and overcome a troubled past if they hope to prosper in their newfound venture.

Quirky and entertaining.... worth a watch. Good performances by all. Always great to see Alan Arkin.

Emotionally, Christine Jeffs’ film is all over the map. As a black comedy it elicits a few smiles mostly centred on gory mattresses and crawling maggots, and as a drama it fails to engage on anything but a superficial level—Norah finds one cleaning assignment hitting too close to home; a crusty Alan Arkin reprises his "Little Miss Sunshine" role as he mentors his grandson in the ways of crooked business dealings; and Rose pines for her boyfriend (Steve Zahn treating us to a butt shot) while feeling the sting of falling from head cheerleader in highschool to impoverished single mother post graduation. Pretty pat and dry plotting with everyone taking a turn at having their own personal revelation and more or less happy endings all around including a potential new love interest that audiences can see coming from a mile away. Sweet but forgettable.

True life struggles for some - Naively used by man, she get's her act together while trying to balance work, life and family.

Great movie.

Genial, soft-core, irreverent, funny and typically Hollywood in that it doesn't take itself too seriously. No spikes of emotion - all's smooth going but that's ok.

Interesting movie. Was surprised I hadn't heard of it at all. Like real life, a black comedy that won't appeal to everyone but watch the interview with the 2 women who do this job.

Draggy in spots, good story line not quite sure why it is listed as a comedy. Good Cast that needed a better script writer. Brief Nudity, and sex scenes , Definitely not a family movie.

In 2016, it seems crazy that a movie starring Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, and Alan Arkin could get practically no attention, but in 2009 this quiet charmer about a woman finding her true calling as a crime-scene cleaning specialist slid under the radar. Featuring really lovely performances from the excellent cast, “Sunshine Cleaning” is perfect for fans of dramedy about family life.

Rated 1/10. Stopped watching after the guy blew his head off. How can this be turned into a comedy? No thanks.

Sweet & simple movie about an average single mom trying to stay sane & make a better life for her 8 year young son. Great cast, especially little Oscar.
