It's a drama. It's a comedy. It's sci-fi with a monster. It's a psychological thriller. You wouldn't think the mash-up would work, but it does. There are holes in the plot, there are deeper issues that could have been explored, but as is, it will keep you guessing and is just so quirky!

If you have ever heard the story about the military and Montauk you would see the similarities. In the Montauk story they use a device to realize objects which appear and develop some solidity for a certain period of time. But at one point in their experiments a creature appears and a windstorm around the facility. The creature starts to do some damage and they have to get it to go away.

In this movie an injury from a lightning strike might be to blame for things coming to life and being under the control of people. It is clear in this movie that one of the characters is very nasty and quite sociopathic towards the other character. Childhood issues boil up between the people. Then to their surprise affect people in a different part of the world. While one is concerned and horrified by the damage done. The other person is quite sadistic and enjoys the trouble that is caused. Eventually the two people confront each other. Later the damage is reduced and the creatures stop.

Colossal starts out like a quirky comedy that could have been really funny. Then, it takes an unexpected dark turn that doesn't fit the subject matter. This film had tremendous potential, but it fails to deliver on any of the humor it develops.

This movie is a colossal hot mess. Stupid story, lame characters, and poor dialogue. A total waste of time.

This movie bears out the psychological position that human unconsciousness erupts to the detriment, and death, of human beings, and that facing your own shadow is the only solution. That is interesting enough. Also interesting is that the story features what I call the "nice guy switch." Guy is totally, even unbelievably, nice until girl does something that reminds him that she is an independent party, and as such is subject to the mischief and mistakes that independence offers.

Turns out girl is a total flake, in just about every area of life. But she stands up to face the maelstrom when it matters, when other people's lives are at stake. And that is a good beginning.

I still think most people will not like this movie because of the other-worldly premise and the colicky tone, but those two ideas were interesting.

Gotta say that that Jason Sudeikis guy has shown himself to be, much like Vince Vaughn, the ultimate @$$#*le. Every movie I've seen him in, he always plays just a perfect d-bag. Not sure what he's like in real life, but he sure plays it well.

Colossal is a very strange and unusual movie, yet it keeps you from walking away. With the twists and confused dialogue, I actually liked this movie. The acting isn't bad and the actors are pretty good. If you are looking for popcorn movie, than you may want to give this one a try.

very disappointed in this one. Not only was it decidedly not a comedy, it was barely entertaining. Certainly not one of Hathaway's better choices.
I could have told you all about this movie and not had to alert you about spoilers.
I have noticed, in the last few movies Ive watched that there are more instances in which the writers seem to feel the need to curse for no good reason. Some language I can take if there is good reason but not everybody feels it necessary to curse in every sentence.
Im going to read all reviews in the future and I appreciate the honest appraisals.

As a fan of giant lizard-ey monsters, robots, and Anne Hathaway, I was predisposed to like this movie. It did not disappoint. In fact, it took my expectations and went in a completely different direction. Though the film is listed as a "comedy," darker elements and twists in the story made the movie something far more than just "Anne Hathaway is adorable and dysfunctional but isn't that just so quirky." It delivers all you expect it to, plus a little bit more. Overall, this would be a perfect movie night watch in spite of the darker elements.

Fantastic movie! Jason S. definitely has leading man chops and proves here he can be an incredible villain when called upon. Anne Hathaway is Anne Hathaway. That's all you really need to know! If you can stick with the seeming zaniness of the plot, it's a unique cinematic achievement, dipping in and out of several genres and doing them all fairly well.

Early scene - excuses:
I got into the car at 2. But then, I was going here. Well, I thought I was coming here. But then Georgia, wanted to go to the loft. You know I want to head home, so then I had to go to the loft. And when we got there, he was like... Well, now I want to take a nap. Then I'm waiting for her, until she wake up and then... I fell asleep. I have been asleep all day.
===
Listen...Georgia wanted to go, I didn't even want to go.
-Who the fxck is Georgia?
Natasha.

Well, you know like... if the monster only attacking Seoul... then all the rest of the world would stop caring, you know like... all the cease fire that happened.
