Nicolas Calva has Caesar's magic bulla, the Malice of Mars, and he has hidden the dangerous Jupiter Stone, but he still has to find a way to defeat The Mistress, a dragon who contains the soul of the vestalis Atroxia, and who hates Rome, and save his mother and friends, and maybe even the Empire itself--and he is troubled by his sneaking sympathy for Atroxia, who was unjustly condemned.

My favorite of the three books. I already knew the writing would be repetitive and the story intended for younger readers, so I didn't let that bother me as I read. This story was fun and engaging, and if you like myth and magic and a fun adventure, this is a good mix. It's a young main character and the issues surrounding him are relatable for young people and don't push any boundaries of appropriateness, which is why I think it's suitable for anyone who isn't intimidated by the number of pages.
