NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * In this collection of personal essays, the beloved star of Gilmore Girls and Parenthood reveals stories about life, love, and working as a woman in Hollywood--along with behind-the-scenes dispatches from the set of the new Gilmore Girls, where she plays the fast-talking Lorelai Gilmore once again.

In Talking as Fast as I Can, Lauren Graham hits pause for a moment and looks back on her life, sharing laugh-out-loud stories about growing up, starting out as an actress, and, years later, sitting in her trailer on the Parenthood set and asking herself, "Did you, um, make it?" She opens up about the challenges of being single in Hollywood ("Strangers were worried about me; that's how long I was single!"), the time she was asked to audition her butt for a role, and her experience being a judge on Project Runway ("It's like I had a fashion-induced blackout").

In "What It Was Like, Part One," Graham sits down for an epic Gilmore Girls marathon and reflects on being cast as the fast-talking Lorelai Gilmore. The essay "What It Was Like, Part Two" reveals how it felt to pick up the role again nine years later, and what doing so has meant to her.

Some more things you will learn about Lauren: She once tried to go vegan just to bond with Ellen DeGeneres, she's aware that meeting guys at awards shows has its pitfalls ("If you're meeting someone for the first time after three hours of hair, makeup, and styling, you've already set the bar too high"), and she's a card-carrying REI shopper ("My bungee cords now earn points!").

Including photos and excerpts from the diary Graham kept during the filming of the recent Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, this book is like a cozy night in, catching up with your best friend, laughing and swapping stories, and--of course--talking as fast as you can.

Lauren is very vague, Gigi! Which is not great for a memoir.

I loved Lauren Graham in "Gilmore Girls" and "Parenthood," and I really enjoyed this loosely-structured humorous autobiography. It's clear the actress talks just as fast as her characters - and is similarly lovable!

A friend recommended I grab this book because I was a big Gilmore Girls fan (which reminds me, it's time I re-watch the series). I thought it'd be perfect on our Hawaii trip and I was right (it was the fourth book I read on the trip and just the change I needed from the previous ones). Lauren shares her experiences from beginning in the acting world (and even before that), to being on Gilmore Girls and eventually the reboot of the series. I loved not only getting a bit of a “behind the scenes” look but also just learning more about Lauren as a person, actor and professional. She is one smart (and funny) cookie! If you liked Gilmore Girls I’d definitely recommend picking up this book. It was a quick, easy and entertaining read. And now I have to see if the library carries the novel she wrote! I would give it an 8 out of 10.

An amazing life, a great career, faithful friends and family. What more could a girl ask for?
Well, maybe a man from Minnesota grounded in his native Mid-western outdoor roots.
Yep, she has that too (Peter Krause).

I adore Lauren Graham. Her honesty (and fast talking) come across as listening to a close friend. I found myself highlighting much of the book and enjoying the author’s narration, one of the great pleasures of a (Kindle Immersion Read).

Here are three of my favorites from Graham’s 2017 Goodreads Choice Award for Humor . . .

“I still find that, in general, having a plan is, well, a good plan. But when my carefully laid plan laughed at me, rather than clutch at it too tightly I just made a new one, even if it was one that didn’t immediately make sense. In blindly trying a different path, I accidentally found one that worked better. So don’t let your plan have the last laugh, but laugh last when your plan laughs, and when your plan has the last laugh, laugh back, laughing!”

“Sometimes the idea of doing something is the most fun part, and after you go through with it, you feel deflated because you realize you’re back to looking for the next thrill.”

“Spend some time with just yourself and your thoughts and nothing to do. How else will you learn who you are?”

If you are a fan of Lauren Graham and Gilmore Girls you will enjoy the book or audio. If you are not a fan of Gilmore Girls but just Parenthood this book may not be as enjoyable for you read and would suggest it just to listen to the book. This book is a cute and humorous listen about Lauren's life and how she got to where she is in life. She is forthcoming is why she made certain choices in her life and what she has learned about herself so far in this life. Warning she wrote the book while filming Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life so it does include spoilers from the show.

I highly HIGHLY recommend the audiobook.
It's like listening to Lorelei Gilmore talk non-stop! It's amazing and funny. A must for any Gilmore Girls fans out there.

Rating:  ★★☆☆☆ - it was okay
Genre:  autobiography, celebrity autobiography, memoir, celebrity memoir
Pros:  conversational, unpretentious, sometimes funny
Cons:  sometimes boring, sometimes aimless

It could have been a more enjoyable read, but somewhere around the halfway mark it just got rambling and aimless and.... I hate to say boring, but I was bored. I found myself almost skipping chunks and having to force myself back to read it completely. I'm someone who loves an autobiography, so I've got no problem reading little details about people's lives and thoughts, but this just stopped holding my attention. I think if there had been a little more guiding or coaxing from the publisher to make sure there was interesting material throughout (or perhaps a shorter book), it would have been 3 stars.

I was not a watcher of her shows Gilmore Girls or Parenthood. She writes extensively about these shows and the crew. Also, her relationship with co-star Peter Krause (with an interesting MN connection!).

I did like her in the movie Bad Santa. She does not mention the movie.
