The third book in the trilogy plays on the concepts from Frankenstein. Better than the second book. Not as good as the first. The author backs off a bit on the romance/triangle aspects of the trilogy and focuses more on the creepy/gothic/horror atmosphere. I think I just found the Moreau concepts more interesting than the Frankenstein ones - possibly because Frankenstein/zombies have permeated pop culture so thoroughly whereas humanlike-creatures-made-from-animals-via-crazy-science really haven't.

A couple of the twists felt like they were thrown in simply for the sake of having twists, and I feel that the story would have been better without them. (The one that bothered me the most didn't drive the plot in any particular direction and I felt that it undid some of the earlier characterization.)

While I still highly recommend The Madman's Daughter, I honestly think it would have been best left as a very good standalone book (rather than spinning it off into a trilogy)

From a retelling perspective, the book is very good. However, for some reason I was less sympathetic towards the characters in this edition. I was also not satisfied with how the romance played out and the love triangle resolved. The solution to the The King's Club problem seemed short-term and incomplete. Was expecting better from the concluding book of the trilogy, tbh.

I was really into this series in the first book, and the second book was pretty good, but this final book was disappointing. The romance aspect was either non-existent or unconvincing, the emotional dilemmas and relationships were not very compelling, and the grand action scene at the end was rather anticlimactic. Abstractly this book should have been amazing, but something about the pacing and the character development was sorely lacking and didn't live up to the first or second book.
