I loved Runaway Vampire so much I decided to re-read it. The relationship in this book between Mary and Lucian--the tough, but loyal Top leader of the Enforcers, and the North American immortals--was fun, and made me laugh. First, Mary--who was human-- made the mistake of calling Lucian...at the secret Enforcer House number... on her cell phone after Dante had used it to call Lucian--Dante's boss-- and Lucian threatened to kill her if she betrayed the secret of the Immortals existence. Later Mary--after she was Immortal herself--literally runs into Lucian, after visiting her adopted daughter at the bank, then after learning Lucian had been testing her, and...was going to kill her if she had "betrayed the Secret" was first angry at Lucian, then offered him sympathetic understanding. Also, I can hardly wait to see how Mary and Lucian work together to help rescue Dante's kidnapped twin, Tomasso, in the sequel, "Immortal Nights". Immortal Unchained is the sequel to Runaway Vampire, and Immortal Nights.

I have read all of the Argeneau Vampires series. I loved them all. But this book wasn't as good as the others. While I enjoyed it, I think it kind of leaves you hanging at the end. There must be more coming later.

"Sadly, he is also one of the best people you could ever have on your side...because he is frightfully strong...in character as well as physical strength. He always judges fairly, always does what needs doing, and, if he approves of you or your cause, he will fight to the death for you." On p.195. Said of Lucian Argeneau--my favorite character in the series-- by a nephew, Russell, grandson of a late younger brother--of Lucian's--Ennius Argeneau.
