Oh, my beloved Artemis Fowl series. Where do I start?
Firstly, I've read in Goodreads' comments that it's around book 5 (The Lost Colony) that the Artemis Fowl series begins to plummet and grow stale. I disagree. I think it's around this book, The Time Paradox, that things start to drag a little. But only a *little*. While this book is the one that I found the most flaws in compared to the rest of the series, I still loved it. I can't hate an Artemis Fowl book. There are too many things to love about it that always override the stuff that just don't work for me. Always.
I loved how much change Artemis has gone through since book 1. Time Paradox did a great job of highlighting that by making Artemis fight himself as they went back in time. It was deep and awesome and feelsy, to see how much he's grown from that selfish, gold-obsessed felon from book 1 (that we all secretly still love, but I digress). The tension between him and Holly near the beginning of the book had me struggling to keep my composure---and failing. Actually, I pretty much failed with that altogether with this book. The direction Colfer went with the two friends was a little strange at first, but he ended things in a circular way that made sense, but also left the door open for something. I can't wait so see where things go in the last two books.
As for stuff I didn't like...some things were much too coincidental. Time travel stuff and whatever. The main villain was someone so familiar it was almost annoying. A main plot point at the beginning of the book turned out to be basically a hoax, which made me feel kind of cheated. And some characters weren't explored well (case in point, Beckett and Myles).
But in the end, I still did like this book. Not the best in the series, but there were so many good moments that went toe-to-toe with the bad...and won me over.

Not my favourite of the series to far but still great. I was so worried about how Artemis was going to save his mom and what would change that I couldn't enjoy it as much :P This is what happens what I get to into a series and start worrying about book characters. I kept going "Nooo Artemis don't lie to Holly!" and facepalming. Overall, the book was good. I thought I would be annoyed that Minerva didn't make an appearance, but I was OK with it. It was odd having Butler play such a small part though. It was so funny having Artemis fight with his past self and realize how annoying he was! The time travel thing always annoys me for some reason but since they admitted it was a paradox it was fine, just confusing. I like how it seems geared toward slightly older people than the first 3-4 so I could enjoy it more.

Great book, though I think that Holly was unfairly mad at Artemis.
