"You probably think we're an urban spy myth, like jet packs and invisibility suits...Well, to tell you the truth, we're fine with that."
“I know in the spy movies it always looks really cool when the operative goes from a maid's uniform to a slinky, sexy, ballgown in the amount of time it takes an elevator to climb three floors. Well, I don't know how it is for TV spies, but I can tell you that even with Velcro, the art of the quick change is one that must take a lot of practice (not to mention better lighting than one is likely to find in a tunnel that was once part of the underground railroad).”
“I suppose a lot of teenage girls feel invisible sometimes, like they just disappear. Well, that's me—Cammie the Chameleon. But I'm luckier than most because, at my school, that's considered cool.
I go to a school for spies.”
“Number of empty Ben & Jerry's containers: 3 -- two mint chocolate cookie, one plain vanilla. (Who buys plain vanilla ice cream from Ben & Jerry's, anyway? Is there a greater waste?)”
"Sure, she knows cuss words in fourteen different languages, but when faced with a minor catastrophe, Liz says 'oopsy daisy.' "
'You probably think we're just an urban spy myth, like jet packs and invisibility suits...and you assume, like everyone else, that the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women is just a snooty boarding school for bored heiresses with no place else to go. Well, to tell you the truth, we're fine with that.'
But, despite all appearances, the Gallagher Academy is anything but ordinary. Sure, it looks normal from the outside, until you run into the electric fences and stun guns...and that's only on the driveway. No, the Gallagher Academy is, in reality, a school for spies, where girls train for years to become some of the best spies the world has ever known. Cameron Morgan, a sophomore at the academy, thinks her life is pretty sweet. She's a spy in training, her mom is the headmistress, she shares a room with her two best friends in the world, and she just started Covert Operations class with a new and mysterious teacher.
And then everything changes when Cammie meets Josh.
No, she's not supposed to meet him. No, she's not supposed to talk to civilians on a co-ops mission. And no, she's most definitely not supposed to fake a whole other life, including being homeschooled for religious reasons and having a cat names Suzie. But Cammie does all of this - and more. After all, how bad can sneaking out every few nights to see a cute boy be? Well, she's about to find out.
This is an AMAZING book. I don't normally like romance or anything, but this is seriously amazing. Think whole days that you can only talk in French, people walking around with rappelling lines in their cufflinks, and a Covert Operations teacher who occasionally abducts some of his students(for the sake of the class, of course). It's like a cross between James Bond, Johnny English, and...I don't know, a well-written romance novel? Except waaay less sappy? Read it. NOW.
Cameron Morgan, daughter of the famous Rachel Morgan has been a spy since she could walk and in all her spy career she can never remembered being seen... But that all crashes and now shes seen by almost every person who sees her when shes in town, to her it seems everyone knows Josh and she can't risk her mom finding out... follow her on her quest to spy and lie her way out of this mess
Cammie Morgan, a fifteen year girl who goes to Gallagher Academy, meets an ordinary boy named Josh while on a mission. It seems like they are the perfect couple, but what Josh doesn't know is that Cammie is a spy, and Cammie can never tell him the truth. Cammie, Bex, and Liz, her best friends, sneak behind everyone's backs to keep this secret. But will this relationship last? Read to find out! :D LOL I sound like a salesperson.

Comment
Add a CommentIt's so refreshing to read a book about a kickass heroine who doesn't seem untouchable, and who while being genius saving the world, Cammie manages to stay extremely easy to relate to, and just staying a young girl. This book is something I strongly recommend for every teenage girl (or boy). Its funny, easy, and, again soooo easy to relate to. Ally Carter kicks butt yet again.
Characters: 8/10
Plot: 9/10
Writing: 10/10
This was a super fast and fun read, which was exactly what I was looking for. I loved the spy elements; the setting with all its hidden passageways was particularly fun, and I liked the gadgets and class stuff.
I really enjoyed Cammie's voice. She is distinct from a lot of YA narrators I've read. She's not on the common extremes of snarky/sarcastic/overconfident or zero self-esteem/depending on the guy to define her worth. She was very relatable even in how she fit into this extraordinary world.
The secondary characters were decent; I liked Liz and Bex and Cammie's relationship to them. Josh was a very loveable love-interest, although the romance felt a *little* bit contrived at times. Overall, it was cute and fun, and I'm interested in reading the sequels.
I think it's a great read, especially for girls of all ages. It's very intriguing and keeps you interested to the point where you want to read the sequels. I would recommend this book.
This is a great read for all ages! An independent young woman is learning to be a spy. Because of her spy-centered education, she has unusual problems that teenage girls normally wouldn't have, which is what makes this series so special.
someone spotted her , dated her , tried to save her , and then gets in a love triangle , i personally love the series
A good story that introduces a great series.
loved it- a little young but still fun
I think I love Carter's Heist Society series a little better, but this was a still a great little gem. Highly recommended for MG girls in particular.
I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You is a novel by Ally Carter and is the first in the Gallagher Girls series. Recommended for girls of any age, it inspires them in particular to be whatever they want to be and follow their heart no matter what; through hard work and dedication, girls are empowered to also reach for the stars and believe that they can accomplish anything and everything if they just simply set their minds to it (even become a spy – how exciting is that!). This book is about a sophomore girl named Cameron Morgan (a.k.a Cammie the Chameleon) who attends the Gallagher Academy, a spy school for young women that is thought by the general public to be a school for stuck-up rich girls. When Cammie goes on a routine mission and meets Josh, an ordinary boy, their blooming relationship clashes with her not-so-ordinary life that goes on inside the walls of the Gallagher Academy. An entertaining novel with many plot twists and an unlikely romance, this is a must-read. Although some relationships may not seem fully developed by the end of this novel, the rest of the books in the series help to further develop them. Therefore, I would give this first Gallagher Girls book a rating of five out of five stars for being so entertaining and witty. I honestly could not put it down since it was fast-paced and suspense-building. Ally Carter, the author of this novel, I feel, did a really great job at digging deeper and expressing the life of not just a teenage spy, but also that of a teenage girl.
