This book was a pretty big disappointment. I don’t know exactly what I was expecting, but this was not it. It wasn’t an awful book, if it had been I wouldn’t have finished it, but it wasn’t good either. It was pretty mundane, for lack of a better word.

Essentially, the book was about the murder of a well-known abortion provider in a small town. Now, you would think that such a plot would give way to at least a little bit of controversy, but there was next to none. Both sides of the abortion debate were addressed, albeit briefly, but that was the end of that.

The plot was pretty shallow. Nothing was ever really explained. For a murder mystery, which I didn’t realize I was picking up, there was not a whole lot of mystery. Most of the book sees the detectives focusing their investigation on someone who is clearly not the culprit, while completely dismissing the obvious killer. Hyde could have done a lot more with this.

The book’s one redeeming factor is the detailed recap of the doctors last moments alive. Those few pages at the very end of the book contained the book’s best writing. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late.

Ok but I thought the plot was obvious.
