Meet Mr. Pignati, a lonely old man with a beer belly and an awful secret. He's the Pigman, and he's got a great big twinkling smile. When John and Lorraine, two high school sophomores, meet Mr. Pignati, they learn his whole sad, zany story. They tell it right here in this book -- the truth, and nothing but the truth -- no matter how many people it shocks or hurts.

Peer pressure has tragic consequences for two teens who never meant any harm, but aren't able to say 'no' until it is too late.

Probably my favorite book of all time and I've read a lot. I love the individualized and unique sarcasm and character Zindel put into both John and Lorraine, especially John's overconfidence and sarcastic behaviors. Not cliché or heavy on the romance and the metaphors and literary examples in the book the characters used (especially references to other books/movies/characters) was a highlight of reading somehow. Quite humorous in the beginning but gets darker in the end as both teenagers realize the heavy hand of death and the real world in consequence to their actions.

Zindel's novel is funny, but has many serious moments. It is a story with original characters and a believable, yet unpredictable, storyline.

Think I read this in high school. It seems so much darker now that I'm an adult. I see WHY we read it in high school, but I'm just not a big fan.
